Growing Up in North Dakota
We finally got to the side of the lake and took shelter under some cabin’s deck until the storm had passed. Very frightening!
Another adventure on the lake was actually going to Canada, the main attraction there the delicious English toffee that we could buy in the general store. We’d lay the toffee on the hot aluminum seats in the boat and let it melt. Boy, was it good. Another delicious treat that we had at the lake came from the wild berries that we’d pick in the forest. We’d bring them home and our moms would make fresh pies with them. Yummy!
Anyway, once we’d moved to California, we’d make the trip back to North Dakota every other summer at least, so my memories of Metigoshe extend into my teenage years. I hope our cabin will bring our family many similar memories. Of course, the accommodations and the activities themselves are very different – but the location is away from home and will provide some consistent fun, season after season, for you and your children and your friends. That is my hope, anyway.
